About this opportunity:

The domain RF Transmitter Technology covers the analogue and RF circuitry between the digital radio frontend and the antenna. This includes functions as frequency up-conversion, power amplifier line-up, transmitter observation receiver, analogue beamforming circuitry, and the associated digital radio algorithms for hardware impairments correction.

Ericsson’s radio product differentiation critically depends on advanced transmitter technology. Competition is also fierce in this technology area. Advancements in this field have high marketing value and are often discussed in press releases. Ericsson’s radio product portfolio today consists predominantly of remote radio units (RRU) and advanced antenna systems (AAS). Both segments have high demands on transmitter technology advancements but towards different directions.

The aim of the position is a comprehensive and integrated focus on advanced transmitter technology research and development for future generations of Ericsson radios.

 

What you will do:

The position has an important role in driving innovation and technology leadership in the transmitter area, and to secure knowledge transfer and competence build-up in the related development organizations. This ensures the development of innovative and competitive radio products meeting challenging future radio network demands.

 

  • System solutions for transmitter technology: concerted design and holistic trade-off of the whole chain of functionalities that make up the transmitter involving functionalities such as frequency conversions, transmitter observation receivers and analogue beamforming circuitry.
  • Power amplifiers solutions: hardware technology for efficiency enhancement techniques of power amplifiers, such as advanced Doherty, Chireix, supply modulation techniques (e.g. envelope tracking), and their combinations
  • Analogue impairment mitigation: linearization (e.g. analog predistortion, feedforward), memory effect compensation (e.g. from trapping, self-heating and biasing decoupling)
  • Digital frontend algorithms: digital predistortion, crest-factor reduction, with focus on co-design and co-optimization with analogue hardware.

 

The skills you bring:

  • Drive technology strategy planning in the domain and ensure there is alignment with relevant stakeholders in research, standardization, product management, technology development and product development
  • Design and evaluate novel RF transmitter technology and algorithms from simulations to proof-of-concepts
  • Contribute to requirement setting, expectations and key performance indicators on product solutions, early phase and SoC development
  • Stay updated on key industry trends, academic research, and technology development in the domain and disseminate acquired knowledge across the organization. Track the market and competition to identify viable solutions and differentiators in the domain
  • Influence internal technology research strategy and targets, through participation in relevant steering forums
  • Represent Ericsson as a technical leader in contacts with customers, competitors, partners, and academia.
  • Foster innovation and encourage filing of relevant IvDs, evaluation of IvDs and support in creating IPR strategies
  • Teach, coach, and mentor colleagues on the different aspects of the domain.
  • Build and maintain a professional and international network of peer technology authorities within and outside Ericsson.
  • Educate and mentor others and spread his/her knowledge. He/she shall create, and be the leader of, a living knowledge community (network) for the radio technology area
